February 2011

Filed under: Uncategorized @ 12:51 pm and

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, don’t forget the sweets for those special people in your lives!
February is also “Love the Bus” month, please take time to show your appreciation to the bus and van drivers who are commited to transporting our students safely to and from school everyday.
The winter weather has been a little unpredictable this year, and as in years past, please remember to be patient with the bus and van drivers who travel the “many roads” in our area. Some roads can be worse then others and the number one priority of our drivers is to arrive safely to their destinations, and unfortunately this may affect pick up times- especially in the mornings. If ever you have any questions regarding these issues, feel free to send an e-mail or contact me personally.
Look on the bright side….sooner or later…. Spring WILL arrive! Every day is a gift, open with care.

SUMMER TIME

Filed under: Uncategorized @ 11:13 am and

Hope everyone is enjoying the hot days of summer! July is a quiet month for transportation but we will soon be getting ready for Kindergarten Orientation and setting up the bus schedules for August 30th……yes, the first day of the 2010-2011 school year. Keep in mind that we will be setting up the schedules starting the beginning of August, so please get in touch with the School District or Kay Porschet/Transportation Supervisor, if you have any address changes or other information pertaining to transportation for your children. We had many postcards returned last year and we would like for everyone to get those postcards this year so we don’t have confusion on busing information.

Our extended school year program is underway and will be going on until August 6th so please keep in mind that there will be school buses and school vans out there transporting children to and from these programs.

The Milton Middle School is currently undergoing renovation, so it will be exciting to see all the new classrooms and changes that have taken place once the project is completed!

Have a safe and happy summer from the Transportation Dept. at M.A.S.D.

Summer Time!

Filed under: Uncategorized @ 2:05 pm and

We are on the countdown……only 10 days left for the 09-10 School Year! Summer will be a busy time of the year for many of us, seniors will be enjoying there time off before heading to college, families will be taking vacations and there will be time for cleaning up around our homes and our yards!

Speaking of “cleaning up’,  I have a task before me that consists of cleaning up and revamping bus runs for the next school year, so please be on the look out for a few changes coming your way. Please take a few minutes sometime over the summer to review our policy and procedures in the student handbook when it comes to  transportation  for your students. Here are a few reminders: Students who are considered “walkers” are not permitted to ride a School Bus, students who are “eligible” to ride a School Bus are only allowed to ride on another School Bus if it is an emergency and it has been approved by the Transportation Supervisor and the Building Principal has been notified. The bus drivers are not permitted to take notes from parents as a “pass” to ride a bus. The School District greatly appreciates your cooperation in this matter.

Our school bus drivers and van drivers take great pride in their job and seek to continue to keep all the students safe, but they cannot do it “alone”. Parents or guardians should emphasize the importance of following rules and being respectful to others, as well as to the drivers who are responsible for transporting this special cargo. Riding the bus is a “privlege” and should be considered in that manner, priveleges can be taken away.

Hope you all have a great summer and I look forward to the 2010-2011 School Year!

TRANSPORTATION NEWS

Filed under: Uncategorized @ 10:50 am and

February is in our midst….Valentine’s Day is here and gone for another year but the snow has decided to linger a while longer. So far we have been more fortunate then other School Districts in that we have not been buried under so much snow that it has affected too many of our school days . A hand of applause goes out to our area township crews who are out working all hours of the day and night to keep our roads safe and passable. Even though those guys are out working round the clock, please keep in my that bus schedules may fluctuate somewhat on days there is snow and ice. Our bus drivers number one concern is safety and they may run a few minutes ahead of schedule or even a few minutes behind depending on the circumstances. ( Our next scheduled make up day will be March 12th.)

Pennsylvania weather can be unpredictable, but we always know that sooner or later those bright little flowers will be peeking through the ground and before we know it spring will be here and our children will be anxious to be outside and ready to breathe in the warm fresh air!  But for now, we have to keep our shovels handy and “Think Spring”.

Transportation News

With school well underway and things going relatively smooth, it is time for a few fall and winter reminders! Remember to have your students out waiting for the bus, especially with the changing seasons. Fog, rain and snow may hinder bus schedules in the morning so please have the students ready and waiting for the bus, even if it is a few minutes behind schedule. Remind students at the Middle School/High School level that they are to depart the school in the afternoon as quickly as possible to avoid missing the bus, in the past students have had too much time on their hands waiting for the school buses to arrive and that’s typically when we encountered problems. Our bus drivers take great pride in the responsibilty they have before them and we strive to support them in every way we can. If you have any questions or comments, feel free to contact me either by phone (742-7614 ext. 1123) or through the District Webpage.

Transportation Time Changes

Filed under: Uncategorized @ 10:18 am and

In effort to increase the efficiency of school bus transportation and to minimize the wait time for students, we are releasing new transportation schedules for the 2009-2010 school year.  Student safety and well being is our highest priority, so this new schedule will alleviate the issues experienced during past school years.  Please look over the revised schedules and post any feedback you may have concerning these changes.

Sincerely,

Kay Porschet
